Maps of our Journey

The first map shows our planned route. Purple lines are flights, red lines are overland travel. As we progress on our journey, further detailed maps will be added to show the actual route taken on the overland sections. You can click on the red sections of our route to see a more detailed map of that section.

Here's a summary of our plans.

• Fly London to Riga, Latvia; overland to Athens, Greece, via Lithuania, Poland, Czech Rep. Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria.
• Fly Athens to Cairo, where we take a one-week stopover.
• Fly Cairo to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania; overland to Cape Town, South Africa, via Malawi and Mozambique.
• Fly to Buenos Aires, and then on to Santiago, Chile; overland to Quito, Ecuador, via Bolivia and Peru.
• Fly Quito to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, stopping in San Jose, Los Angeles and Hong Kong, and travel overland to China, Mongolia, and Russia via the Trans-Siberian Railway.
• Return to the UK via southern France (to visit my parents!)

We have completed our journey through Eastern Europe to Greece. We have visited Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. Click on the country to read our diary entries.

Africa

We reached Africa in November 2003. So far we have visited Egypt (not on the map), Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa.

South America

We reached South America in early February 2004. We liked Buenos Aires and Argentina so much that we have decided to travel through Argentina rather than travelling on to Chile. We have since visited Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.

Indo-China and Russia

Our final continent, Asia, was under foot in May 2004. We travelled through Vietnam, China, Mongolia and Russia.
